School... The reason we came to Italy.
The school schedule was pretty simple. We went to class in the morning, had an hour or two lunch breaks and then class again for two to four more hours after…
The first week of classes was hands down the best out of the three. We had amazing teachers who I really grew attached to, mostly Clelia. I actually cried in the bathroom after we took the final because I was going to miss her, and I do! It’s crazy because I only knew them for five days, but I’ll remember them forever. I hope that I can make an impact like that on my students someday. I started studying the language a couple months before I came to Italy, but there was and still is so much that I don’t know. I learned a lot from the Italian language course and I am very glad that I had the opportunity to take it.
I was kind of dreading the second week because I don’t care about the subject, fashion and design, and the syllabus said we had to give presentations, which I hate, but the content was actually interesting and the presentations were not so bad. We mostly talked about companies and the business side of things and we had three groups of three give presentations on different design houses. I would have appreciated a little more enthusiasm from the teacher though.
The last week was probably the most interesting in more ways than one. We had a different teacher every day and they were all really nice and professionals, but only some of them were able to hold my attention. I tried so hard to focus, but I have trouble controlling my brain when something isn’t interesting or at least presented in a way that grabs you. When I am bored my mind wanders or I fall asleep. I don’t think I fell asleep there, but I definitely found myself thinking about weird random things and having no idea what the teacher was talking about a few times… Some of the instructors were awesome though! We even got to learn about restaurants from a food critic and we talked about different cuisine from all the regions of Italy. We had dinner at a restaurant one night, and we tasted and learned about wine, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. I also know that parmesan cheese and Parmigiano Reggiano are NOT the same thing. We wrapped up the week with a trip to a vineyard. The academic life was overall pretty cool. I learned a ton of stuff.
