We toured a few places in Milan and went to a vineyard... :)
The first trip we went on a was guided tour of the cathedral, the opera house and the castle. I really enjoyed this outing because we got to inside the buildings I ‘d been admiring from the outside all week and we learned so much about the history of each one. The first thing I thought of when I saw the cathedral was “I wonder how long it took to build” I was very pleased that the tour guide informed us that it took 600 years. We also learned that it is made of marble, that is imported because there is no marble in Milan (power move), that it is the 3rd largest church in the world, that there are dead bodies inside, but much more under the church and I thought was kind of cool and slightly creepy.
After we left the cathedral, we went to the opera house and then the castle. It was cool to see the auditorium, learn about the history and see many historic costumes and props at the opera house. I was most excited about the castle it was cool, but I anticipated being able to see more of it, so it was a little disappointing. The Sforza castle has a few museums in it and we went to two. Mostly looked at art and artifacts, armor and stuff like that. I enjoyed it, but I really wanted to see the rest of the castle, like the living quarter and stables etc. I’m not sure if those areas are even open to the public, or even still in their original state, but that would have been amazing to see. I love history and architecture, so this trip was really cool to me.
Our other day trip was the last day. We went to a vineyard and it was absolutely breathtaking. I wish we were in an area like that the majority of the trip. I have always wanted to live in the country, and going to this vineyard made me want to live there forever based solely on the beautiful view. The view was the best part of this trip. I had never had wine (or any alcoholic beverage really) until the day before, at the wine tasting at school and obviously we tasted more at the vineyard. I don’t I like it… We played a game that was pretty fun. Taking a tour of the winery and learning how and why they do what they do to make the wine was super interesting to me. I enjoyed my time there even though the food was not exciting (they didn’t give me a meatless lunch), so I was really hungry all day, but we went swimming and I loved looking around because it was so pretty. I felt like it wasn’t real life. I am grateful for this experience.
